Grandparents and Old Age

You know, getting older really fucking sucks. I can only imagine what it must be like to be 70 let alone 91. Those are the ages of my Grandmother and Greatgrandmother. The latter, is incredible vile lately. Can you say bitchier than a moody teenager. I think I'd rather deal with a handful of those my lordy. Do you think its because they are in pain all the time or because at that age, you are perpetually alone.

Most, if not all of your friends are gone, most of the family you know is gone and your whole world is changing. At least from the world you knew 50 years ago. Must make for a pretty shitty situation. I do know that, it makes those of us that care for our elderly loved ones a very difficult situation. I know what they say... "Just brush it off, 'they' are getting old..." but you know, sometimes man, that shit hurts.

At what point do we not let things become acceptable and stand up for ourselves? Or do we continue to let things slide because of their age? It's a tough question and for most of us, something we all have to ask ourselves at some point in our lives. With our grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, older siblings or whomever you are responsible for. Caring for others can sometimes be a really tough job and it can really effect us negatively.

My suggestion, have some kind of an out. Get a hobby, like reading or crafts. For me, I'm trying to get back into horses so that way I'm not always in front of a computer screen and stuck in the house all the time. It's something I miss dearly. It's also something I had started with my Grandmother and Mom a loooong time ago. SO, on that note, grandparents and old age... it's a bitch.
